Weather something is innate in a human (instinctual, born with, in their blood) or has developed in the human due to their environment (way they were raised). Scientists have studied identical twins adopted by different families to try to work out what attributes are from nature (in their blood), and what are from the way they were nurtured (raised), they have no conclusive evidence with so many variables (things that may affect the results). So this question can’t be answered. Sorry!
Just for the record, I think nerds are cool too! I think it is as I feel a nerd would think I was real cool and way out of their league, making me highly desirable to them, making me feel real special and amazing, which, as I have low self esteem, would be a great feeling for me to have. Hope I don’t sound too up myself!
