How much are contacts going to cost me…?

Hi there, well I’m kind of tired of glasses (haha). They always slip down my nose, I look ten times better without them, I am a prep (so I really look like a revenge of the nerds character with them on), I can’t play sports with them, and they get dirty constantly. So I’m thinking of contacts, but how much per month will I be charged. I tried contacts.com but I didn’t really understand the price guide.

A lot of people wear contacts, so they can’t be that expensive… I’m just looking for an estimate per month.

I also hear you should switch between contacts for 3-4 weeks, and wear glasses for 2 weeks for eye health, is this true? And do contacts hurt your eyes?
I’m near sighted for negative 1.00 if that matters

Unless your contacts are MADE for overnight wear, you should NOT wear your contacts overnight. Wearing them overnight can cause damage to your eyes as well as causing infections.

As to your glasses, did you ever have them adjusted behind your ears and on your nose? Those are the main causes of glasses sliding down your nose.

The cost of the contacts depends on the brand and what type you buy. There are contacts that you change every two weeks while some are changed every month. Some places will give you discounts when you buy a year supply at once. I switch between glasses and contacts. While my monthly lenses are $40 per box and the two-weeks are $32, I save more in the end annually for contacts because the monthly contacts last longer, thus I have to buy less boxes.

There are 6 lenses per box, and if the prescription is different in both eyes, you’ll have to buy at least 2 boxes each time. If it is a two week contact, one box will last you 3 months. One box of the monthly lenses last you 3 months.

There would be several reasons why your eyes would hurt wearing contacts:

1. The lens is inverted (inside out)
2. There is a tear in your contact (if there is, throw it away and get a new lens.)
3. There is something in your eye/on your contact (like a strand of hair)
4. You are allergic to the lens material, the solution, etc.

Switching between glasses and contacts does keep your eyes healthy because your eyes can breathe better without them on. I would definitely recommend getting a pair of backup glasses in case something happens to your contacts or you get an eye infection. Even if one eye is infected and the other is not, you can spread the infection to the healthy eye.

I would recommend talking to your optometrist and see if contacts are right for you. They will give you trial lenses to find out which brand and fit is best for you. Good luck! =)

The eye health thing, no. Contacts are perfectly fine to wear back to back to back (in fact, I keep mine in overnight for like 3 weeks before changing them– when I wake up my eyes are sore, but hot water [Steam] makes the pain go away)

As for price, you should guess around $60 per box. Each box has 6 lenses in it, and if you have an astigmatism, you need two different boxes.

Each lense lasts from 3-5 weeks.

am not certain, however if you’re prone to buggar-eyes, they may get caught and float up into the contacts, so get insurance.

you should go to http://www.discountcontactlenses.com/ thats where i just got my contacts from (and is the cheapest out of all the places i looked at) the best ones out right now are the air optix aqua (the ones i just got) cause they have the newest lenses so that its more breathable for your eyes, and that way they wont be all bloodshot like my old ones did. i just got the contacts that they sent me and they have a 20 dollar rebate for the air optix aqua ones. and with the rebate its only about $28 something a box (which is super cheap) so if you order 2 boxes for each eye (4 boxes total) its only about $105 for the whole years worth of contacts :) its not too pricey at all. and you can wear contacts back to back, its not a big deal for your eyes, i wear mine at least 12 hours a day everyday.

oh btw you can also get daily disposable contacts, 1 week disposable contacts, 2 weeks, and a month :) and some of them even lets you sleep in them. so just find the one thats best for you

    hope it helps :)

It doesn’t matter your prescription, just the problem you have and the type of lens you want.

If you want monthly, it’s about 30 to 50€
The price depends on the brand.

And also, the best way to get lenses for the first time is to go from your eye doctor’s office and have an eye exam he has to find your diameter, your bc, your current prescription and the brand which could work the best for you.

    Enjoy your new lenses :)
